Maza Transport: Saving Lives in Rural Ghana Through On-Demand Transportation

Founder & CEO: Nana Twum Danso

Developed countries boast of an emergency response system that is activated in minutes, unheard of in rural Ghana. MAZA is changing that. In a health emergency, calling MAZA on your mobile can locate the nearest vehicle and send a driver to you within minutes.

MAZA is establishing a multi-purpose, affordable, and accessible transportation network in rural Ghana that ensures timeliness, reliability and patient-centeredness in meeting urgent health transportation needs while also creating jobs.

MAZA is improving timeliness in accessing urgent health care that is especially important during pregnancy and infancy. A smart model also structures demand for health transportation by subscribing families with pregnant women through incentives, health education and pre-payment with mobile money. The business also operates a toll-free mobile phone dispatch center to match callers with the nearest drivers to get them to the nearest health care facilities.

It is creating jobs and income-generating assets for drivers by subsidizing vehicle loans to drivers to ensure a reliable supply of motorized vehicles in rural communities that can serve multiple functions.

Why we love Maza Transport: When there is no health emergency, MAZA vehicles are busy meeting other transportation needs in the rural communities such as getting goods to market and enabling farmers and traders to access more markets more frequently.
