Gruten – Creating value from coffee waste

Founder & CEO: Siri Mittet

Globally Spotted location
Norway

Gruten is a start-up company that creates new values of the city’s coffee waste. They recirculate coffee grounds to new products and work for increased awareness and knowledge of coffee grounds as a useful resource.

Gruten is an innovative and sustainable business with a local foundation that recirculates and gives new coffee value to the coffee industry.

Gruten aims to be a locally based, innovative and sustainably driven business that upgrades coffee waste and provides it with new value through agriculturally related activities.

Gruten always looks ahead while still being focused on what is available in the here and now. They take a positive approach and show that you can create exciting products while being environmentally conscious at the same time.

Using HurtiGRUTEN, their uniquely designed transport bike, they use pedal and electric power, and a good dose of coffee energy to collect the city’s coffee grounds. At Gruten Farm they transform this amazing and almost unused resource into innovative products, such as soaps and coffee cups.

Gruten is a social company, which means that all financial profits go back to the operation of the business and to social projects.
