15 Jul DoctHERs: Healthcare Marketplace That Champions Under-utilised Female Medical Practitioners
C-founder: Dr. Sara Khurram
doctHERs is a novel healthcare marketplace that connects female doctors in Pakistan to millions of underserved patients in real-time while leveraging technology. Pakistan has a unique healthcare conundrum where 70% of its medical students are female but women only make up 23% of registered doctors. Socio-cultural barriers in Pakistan restrict educated women trained in healthcare/medicine to their homes while there is a lack of access to quality healthcare for many.
So doctHERs enlists the untapped potential of female medical practitioners and matches them with unmet demand for good healthcare. doctHERs also aggregates healthcare suppliers and providers and low-income, marginalised / underserved communities in urban slums and rural areas who otherwise are unable to access to affordable, quality healthcare.
The marketplace is harnessing mobile, internet enabled technologies, video-conferencing, cashless payment to connect at-home female doctors to reach & serve patients. The network also uses ‘point-of-care’ diagnostic tools with the support of community health workers to treat those in need.
Why we love doctHERs: Women feel confident seeking medical advice from female doctors and doctHERs’ approach of bringing more visibility to female healthcare professionals creates a domino effect for better health related outcomes in Pakistan.
